Wedding Smashbook pages

Thursday, February 26, 2015

So when I was flipping through my Smashbooks the other day, I realized I had a few pages in my white Love/Wedding album I had never shared. These were completed over a year ago! This smashbook has a lot of great pages in it that I don't want to cover up!

Our wedding cake was so yummy. Joe's grooms cake was a tree stump with a chain saw on top - too cool! His mom made both of our cakes.

A few of the flowers Joe has given me over the years.

Mr. and Mrs. - a couple of my favorite photos from the wedding.

Pocket Letters

Monday, February 23, 2015

Have you heard about Pocket Letters? I stumbled across a picture on Instagram and immediately fell in love. Basically it's a way to use pocket scrapbooking to write pen pals. I'm doing one time swaps instead of ongoing pen pals, but you can do either! It's standard to use baseball card dividers but some people are using different sizes.

I used a Simple Stories 6x6 paper pad to make this kit. Since these are one time swaps, I'm including a small "About Me" in each letter.

This is My Mind's Eye Market Street collection. I also used some gold MAMBI stickers. I included things like paper clips, washi, stickers, and tea.

I used pop dots to attach these wood veneers. Hopefully the recipient can remove them easily if she wants to use them in her scrapbooking.

I had some scraps leftover from Crate Paper's On Trend collection.

I had fun using die cuts to make filler cards.

New Home card

Thursday, February 19, 2015

My brother recently moved so I made a card to send to him. I combined several Studio Calico stamps to make this sentiment. I love how it turned out!

Project Life - January (Part Two)

Monday, February 16, 2015

Here are the rest of my Project Life pages for January. The first layout for the month is all of the random moments and thoughts from January.

Left side: lunchbox notes from Joe, a visit from a friend, American Sniper movie, a doctor visit, and a gorgeous sunset Joe texted me.

I got a bunch of the Color Theory alphas recently from Studio Calico. LOVE THEM!

Right side: our recent weekend trip to Asheville, where we pretended to be foodies.

We took a minute to get some silly pics at Urban Outfitters' photo booth.

The Harry Potter pages go next in the album.

I also made a one page layout for a page all about my current goals - yoga, One Little Word, exercising, reading, taking a break to shop at the bookstore, and trying new recipes.

That's it for January! So far I'm really liking the monthly format. It's been a nice change for me.

Felt Valentine heart

Thursday, February 12, 2015

I made this little felt Valentine heart a while ago. I had originally intended to make several to display in one of my apothecary jars, but never got around to it... even though it was super simple to make. I just cut out two heart shapes and used embroidery floss to write my sentiment. I think I used blanket stitch to do the edges. My embroidery needs a little practice but I think it turned out pretty cute!

Hope you have a happy Valentine's Day!

Gather Around the Table layout

Monday, February 9, 2015

So I've been getting the Story Kits and Story Stamps from Ali Edwards and I have to say - I love them! I'm trying to use them as much as possible this year. Joe and I went over to my parents house for dinner the other night and it was so great to catch up. There's been a lot going on and I felt like I hadn't seen them in forever.

I used stamps, stickers, the plastic word "gather", chipboard pieces, and a 4x6 card from the Gatherings Story Kit.

I used a paper from Amy Tangerine's "Stitched" collection. I just found a pack of it at A.C. Moore this weekend. Yay!

And if you haven't considered subscribing to the Story Kit or Story Stamp, let me just give you a little testimony - do it!! I am amazed every month at the thought that's been put into these products. You have access to a video (I think it's always been 30+ minutes), a gallery, a forum, and more. You also get lots of examples about how to use the month's theme. I wouldn't have thought of most of the ways you could interpret the themes.

Project Life - January (Part One)

Wednesday, February 4, 2015

As I said the other day, I'm doing Project Life in a monthly format this year. I may or may not include some 12x12's in this album. I'm working on not caring how many pages there are each month. I find it a bit overwhelming to just take a ton of pictures and events and mish mash them onto a layout - so I'm kind of grouping my photos in a way that makes sense to me.

I used some recent Studio Calico PL kit cards to create this layout about our weekend trip to Universal Studios and Universal's Islands of Adventure in Orlando. It was a quick trip but was super fun. We mostly wanted to see the new Harry Potter stuff (London, Diagon Alley, etc) that had opened since our last visit.

I tried to use up some of those words included in the Far Far Away PL kit. I still have a ton left.

We shamelessly used our Selfie Stick to get some great shots with more background included.

I kept the folder that our room key was in and included our theme park tickets, a page from a notepad in the room, and a money envelope from the park.

That's about it! Are you a Harry Potter fan?

26 Books - January

Monday, February 2, 2015

Growing up, I used to read for pleasure all the time. We went to the library and checked out books on a regular basis and I loved going to B. Dalton bookstore in the mall. When I moved home after pharmacy school, I called the library to see how to get a new library card. The children's librarian (Mrs. Powers) knew who I was before I even told her (lol!). I quit reading for pleasure sometime during pharmacy school. I didn't have much free time and I had to read so many textbooks that extra reading just didn't happen.

This year I signed into Goodreads and set a goal of 24 books for 2015... 2 per month seemed doable! And now that I found this read-a-long prompt list, I'll be updating my progress monthly. I added a couple more to my original goal.

1 - A book you own but haven't read
2 - a book that was made into a movie
3 - a book you pick solely because of the cover
4 - a book your friend loves
5 - a book published this year
6 - a book by an author you've never read before
7 - a book by an author you love
8 - a book at the bottom of your "to be read" pile
9 - a book with a color in the title
10 - a book set somewhere you've always wanted to visit
11 - a book you started but never finished
12 - a book with a lion, a witch, or a wardrobe
13 - a book with a female heroine
14 - a book set in the summer
15 - a book of poems
16 - a book you learned about because of this challenge
17 - a book that will make you smarter
18 - a book with a blue cover
19 - a book you were supposed to read in school. But didn't.
21 - a book with a great first line
22 - a book with pictures
23 - a book from the library
24 - a book you loved... read it again!
25 - a book that is more than 10 years old
26 - a book based on a true story

In January, I checked off #18 - a book with a blue cover by reading The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. I loved reading this book. Every month, Gretchen focused on one area of her life and tried to increase her happiness in that area. I could really relate to almost everything she did. Although she considered herself happy to begin with, she become more fulfilled during that year.

Next, I read #14 - a book set in the summer - by reading The Vacationers by Emma Straub. It's about a dysfunctional family on a vacation overseas. It was somewhat interesting, but didn't totally captivate me or anything. Easy read.

The last book for January was #21 - a book with a great first line. I read Everything I Never Told You: A Novel by Celeste Ng. WOW. I read this book really fast because it was so good!

What's the best book you've read in the last year? I need some to add to my list!
