Repurposed Rolodex

Monday, September 1, 2014

I bought a spinner Rolodex at a thrift store for $2 a while back. I've been thinking of different things to use it for. I even made a Pinterest board and have found some fun uses for Rolodexes.

I've finally decided I want to use it to create a collection (compendium? encyclopedia?) of scrapbooking tools and techniques that I try. I think the small size of the Rolodex cards is perfect for art journaling, playing with mixed media, learning to stamp, etc. I made just a few cards the other night and they turned out pretty fun.

I'm in love with the pattern I created using the 3 V's on that Studio Calico stamp.

I had a little bit of trouble with the marker ink pooling on my new Heidi Swapp "documented" stamp. I had some better luck when I used an ink pad. Do any of you stampers have some tips for me??

Are Distress Inks not good for clear stamps? Again, I need some tips!

I may get a Rolodex punch (is there such a thing??) or make a cut file for my Cameo so I can cut more cards in different colors.

Has anyone ever used a Rolodex for a craft project??

I love reading each and every comment! Be sure to keep up with me on Instagram, Pinterest, and Facebook!

  1. Such a cute idea, Emily, and I'd think it'd be a great way to spark some inspiration by flipping through it! :)

  3. I can not offer any stamping tips, I am a non-expert, stamp by accident, stamper. :P You can actually buy a rolodex punch. I bought one when we attempted to do a Rolodex makeover. Trust me, it takes forever to fill up all those cards! The punch was just a simple little flat punch that made the notches but did not cut the shape of the card. I still have to cut my paper down to the right size rectangle. Have fun!!!

    1. Haha! I bet it does take a while. Some of these cards have business cards still attached, so I don't know if they're going to be useable when I remove them. Sounds like creating a Cameo file is the way to go on this project!!

  4. Distress inks don't stamp smooth. I guess they look kinda distressed! :) I like to use them when I want my stamp to look a little less than perfect.
