Project Life 2013 - Week 19

Friday, May 31, 2013

Week 19's 2-page spread turned out to be bright and cheerful - I love it! I got fun mail from Two Peas, had news about work (I don't include work very often - need to start doing that), went and saw Jurassic Park 3D, went to a graduation party, and celebrated Mother's Day.

Left Side: I love this week title card. The paper is from October Afternoon, one of my faves. I included cards from Blush and Jade. The 4x6 journaling card is the back of a card from Week 18. I really like being able to use both sides of a card!

I put this small card beside of an Instagram of my Two Peas happy mail. The We Are Memory Keepers 2" x4" cards are available at Target. I simply added the 'joy' word sticker.

Right Side: How adorable is that picture on the bottom left hand corner? I used that new app called A Beautiful Mess to embellish it. I can't get enough of that app!

Another 2" x4" WRMK card. I added an Amy Tangerine sticker on top of the journaling spot.

I put a slide from Crate Paper's 'The Pier' to highlight my hubby on his riding lawnmower.

I tried out using some sequins this week - I love how it looks!

Any tips for attaching sequins to a page? I used Alene's Tacky Glue but it was a little messy.

Project life 2013 - Week 18

Wednesday, May 29, 2013

So I was able to get caught up on Project Life this past Friday - I'm so glad! I was only 3 weeks behind, but I don't like to be behind. Anyways, here's the full 2-page spread of Week 18. The week title card ended up on the right side. I definitely prefer to have them on the left side, but I already made all of my title cards horizontal. Oh well - it works!

Left Side: the 'Home is wherever I am with you' is the backside of a quote from Week 17. I generally am not able to use the backside, but it worked out this time. I took colors from the quote card and used them throughout the week. I was really proud that my 30 Days of Lists project was highlighted on the 30 Days of Lists Facebook page, so I took a screenshot of the post and cut it down to use. I used washi tape behind it to create a frame on a Blush card.

Cinco de Mayo card. I (obviously!) love this picture and it needed its own 4x6 spot on this week. The camera card is from part of the Jade kit that I bought from someone recently. The stickers are from Sn@p.

Jade card - I thought the 'sweet memories' sentiment was perfect for a frozen yogurt picture, but the words were close to the middle of the card. I just cut it and used washi tape to tape it back together. The other stickers are from Sn@p.

Right Side:

Hope you like my Week 18! How are you doing on PL? Are you keeping caught up?

Catching up!

Friday, May 24, 2013

Just a little catching up to do....

The last three weeks have been so busy! I've been working, continuing physical therapy for my neck and shoulder, celebrating a friend's graduation, shopping, celebrating Mother's Day, training new employees, visiting my brother and going to Busch Gardens, and more!

I had a very nice surprise this past Tuesday - Two Peas featured my Earth Day project life card I made using their new globe cut file. Made my day!! :)

I've been really interested in making cards lately. I think I'm going to try to make up several in advance, so I have them when I need them. I'm thinking of making a couple of birthday cards, thinking of you cards, and maybe a get well soon card.

So I'm 3 weeks behind on Project Life! I was doing so well, but then it started slipping. On the other hand, I've been making memories to document in PL! I made some notes in my planner notebook, and will be printing pictures on Friday. I have several days off for Memorial Day, so I plan on finishing weeks 18, 19, and 20 (and at least starting 21). There will probably be a couple weeks of double PL posts here soon :)

I have all the stuff printed out for the second week of Heidi Swapp's memory file adventure. I can't wait to work on it this weekend too! Gotta take some pictures and figure out what I'm doing for Week 3 as well. I'm still loving this project, and will be posting an update very soon.

Have you downloaded the new app called A Beautiful Mess? I love playing around with it, as you can see from my recent Instagram pictures!

Hope you have a great Memorial Day weekend. Happy crafting!

Thinking of You card

Wednesday, May 22, 2013

A dear friend of mine got some unexpected, life changing news a couple of weeks ago, so I decided to make her a little card to try to cheer her up and let her know I was thinking of her. I used pretty papers and embellishments from Crate Paper's Maggie Holmes collection.

I used a pink butterfly die cut on the bottom. I lightly folded the smaller yellow butterfly die cut so it would have some dimension, and attached it with pop dots.

I added a phrase sticker from the Maggie Holmes collection too. The doily is from a pack I got at Target during Valentine's season. The blue frame is a diecut from Maggie Holmes.

I thought it turned out pretty cute!

This time last year: Project Life SMASH book May 2012

Monday, May 20, 2013

This is the next installment of my 2012 Project Life Smashbook. Be sure to take a look at January, February, March, and April's blog posts.

A simple page was the first page for May... but it was a month full of 'little moments'. First, we got an outdoor table for our patio!

We attended a birthday picnic / cookout for Joe's dad. I included a picture of his parents' dog Freckles from the party. We went to my parents house on the way home and there was a turtle trying to cross the road. Joe jumped out and helped him along. Dad went with me to the pharmacy school graduation. Three students that I had worked with graduated last year.

The second page - We live in Bristol, TN and our downtown is half in TN and half in VA. Joe and I went downtown to the Bristol sign when the town tried to set a Guinness Board record for having the most people in TN and VA at the same time (one foot in each state). We had a great breakfast at Blackbird Bakery that morning. We attended out first Border Bash. I went to some yard sales with Dad and found that great red suitcase. Mumford and Sons announced their plans to come to Bristol as part of their Gentlemen of the Road tour.

Joe and I took a trip to Williamsburg, VA to see my brother and to visit Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens. I included some pressed pennies on this layout. I used a SMASH insert to add the page on the right. I have some themed pages tucked between months in this book (more on that in a future post). I had so much to include in May that I had to add that extra page.

I wrapped up the Williamsburg trip on the left and then put a couple of 'little things' on the right page. We went to Trail Days in Damascus, VA and I got this awesome postcard for $1 from a girl that had hiked the entire Appalachian Trail. She took a picture of every AP sign she came across, then turned the collage into a postcard - awesome! Then I tried a new technique of making a QR code to include in scrapbooking. I just googled 'free QR code' and made one for my friend Jamie's blog when she featured my SMASH book. If you scan it, it really works! It's a great way to make your SMASH book interactive.

Graduation Card

Friday, May 17, 2013

I made this little card for a friend's graduation last week. The colors at her graduation party were gray and peach, so that helped me narrow down my color choices for making the card. She's a big fan of chalkboards and chevrons, so that helped me make design decisions too! I found a peach and cream chevron paper from a 6x6 pad from My Mind's Eye 'Chevrons' pack.

I used the Sketch feature to make a couple of different options for the front of the card. My first try didn't turn out so well - the pencil option on the sketch feature made the sketch pen write over and over in the same spot. It actually went through the paper and made holes! For the second try, I went to Advanced Options under the Sketch feature and decreased the density of the sketches. This resulted in a perfect picture!

First, I set my page to 8.5x11 and added registration marks. I printed the chalkboard frames on my home printer using white cardstock.

To use the sketch pen, I set the Cameo to "cut" the pictures I created on the chalkboard frames. I set the frames to "no cut".

Then to cut the frames out with the Cameo blade, I set the pictures to "no cut" and set the outline of the frames to "cut".

Then I just glued the chalkboard frame to the peach and cream chevron paper, trimmed the chevron paper to size, and glued it to some gray cardstock. I wrote some congratulatory words inside the card using an orange Sharpie pen.

Hope you enjoyed this simple graduation card! Do you have any graduates in your life right now?

Cinco de Mayo SMASHbook page

Monday, May 13, 2013

Cinco de Mayo is one of my most favorite holidays - so of course Joe and I went out to celebrate! When we got to our favorite Mexican restaurant, I saw this fun standup cutout and told Joe that we were going to take a picture. Luckily he played along, even though he doesn't always want to take the picture <3 I did this page in my Black mod All-About-Me SMASHbook because I love taking silly pictures.

Here's the finished page: The banner, ole!, and chihuahua are from a sticker set by the Paper Studio (available at Hobby Lobby).

These small papers are from the fortune cookie refill set from K&Co's SMASH line. There are tons of sentiments in the pack, but these best fit the occasion. The gold medallions and heart die-cuts are from a new, very SMASH-y set from K&Co that I picked up at Michael's last week.

Look at these fun stickers and diecuts - I chose a '5' die cut, a May calendar cutout, an adorable Chihuahua sticker, a word sticker from K&Co, and a flower diecut. The '5' and the flower are also from that new SMASH-y K&CO line.

I'm still working on doing more journaling, so I used a Sharpie fine tip marker to add some journaling to the page. I was going to use a journaling card, but I had too much to say and ran out of room after adding all of the embellishments to the page.

And here's a close-up of that hilarious picture.

Joe and I have a lot of fun together!

Mother's Day Cards

Sunday, May 12, 2013

Happy Mother's Day!

Since I've been wanting to get into card-making, I decided to make Mother's Day cards for my mom and for my mother-in-law. I purchased the Cards for Moms svg kit from SVGCuts. There are 7 different designs in this kit. I will definitely be able to use the cut files for other cards - I'll just leave off the 'mom' on them!

I used a paper pad called Indie Chic from My Mind's Eye. I got it at Michael's. Using the cut files from this kit was super easy - all I had to do was figure out which color I wanted things to be! I was able to find matching purple cardstock to use as the base of my card. I love how this kit had envelope cut files too!!

Here's a close-up just to show a little dimension.

I used pop dots behind the cutouts to give them more dimension.

Heidi Swapp Memory File Adventure - Week 1

Friday, May 10, 2013

I'm having so much fun with this project! I'm really glad I made a little kit from my scrapbooking stash before I got started. That's made it so quick and easy to grab embellishments. I followed the instructions for Week 1 and it came together pretty quickly.

Be sure to check out my Memory File board over on Pinterest. I'll be pinning my creations, Heidi's blog posts each week, and other inspiring memory file adventures.

For the front page, I cut out the banner-shaped page with my Silhouette Cameo. The fabric Polaroid frame is from the Maggie Holmes collection. I took the "happy life" sentiment off another frame and put it on this one. I secured it with hot pink staples (that I got in a pack of blue, green, and pinks staples from Walmart for 88 cents!). I cut a short banner from Michael's Heidi Swapp Sugar Chic paper pad and added a Heidi Swapp word phrase.

I had already cut some blank chipboard memory files in half. I then glued paper to them using Zip Dry, cut off the excess paper with my X-Acto knife, and filed off the uneven edges.

This is my front cover. I'll be adding more to it. The inside of the cover is a pink striped paper.

This is how the pages will look when you first open the book. I cut all of these banner pages on the Cameo. I just made each page about an inch longer than the last to get this cascading effect.

The second page has 4 pictures of me on it. They're fastened to the page using a sparkly blue brad. I cut apart a scalloped banner and used each scallop as a tab. It's easier to separate the pictures with tabs on them.

This is the back of page 2 and the front of page 3. They're joined by a printable accordion book (available in the Week 1 instructions linked above). I haven't finished filling out the book yet, but it's very cute.

I may add more embellishments to this page. Right now, all I have is washi tape. I stuck a little round paper cut out behind the brad.

I cut apart another banner from the Heidi Swapp Sugar Chic papers. I used pop dots under the middle pennant to give it more dimension. I added a couple more pink staples just for fun.

How cute is the sparkly blue bow on this paper clip?? It's also from Heidi Swapp. The vellum is from another printable available on the Week 1 instructions. I filled it in with "went out with Joe". I put a picture we took right before going out to dinner for my birthday. I added some Heidi Swapp chipboard heart stickers to the front of the vellum.

I put a chipboard "love" sticker to the paper underneath. On the chevron strip, I wrote "my birthday dinner 4/14/13" and added another heart sticker.

On page 4, the instructions tell you to make an accordion booklet to introduce the "characters" in your life, using pictures and bios. I chose to use an old zebra print pocket and make little cards to go inside. I sprayed the pocket with Heidi Swapp's Color Shine turquoise spray. I used the same spray on the Color Magic arrow and star, and added a strip of black chevron washi tape across the top of the pocket. I printed "remember this" on some vellum paper to make this page.

These are the fronts of my character cards - I included my hubby, brother, parents, and dog. I embellished with chipboard heart and arrow stickers, a black sequined star, and another sparkly bow paper clip. I used these photo tabs from Pink Paislee's Secret Crush collection on each card and alpha stickers from Studio Calico's Sundrifter line.

This is the back of each card. I picked a photo of me with each character.

Well that's it for Week 1! Hope you've enjoyed looking at my version of the memory file album. I absolutely love it. Are you following this adventure with Heidi?

Project Life 2013 - Week 17

Tuesday, May 7, 2013

Week 17 was a routine week without a lot of excitement. It's nice to have those every now and then, though! I didn't take nearly enough pictures. I need to get better at taking 'everyday' photos - I've made a list of photos I want to take. The good thing about not taking enough photos was that it gave me a chance to do a no-photo layout on the left side.

Full 2-page Spread:

Left Side:

For this week, I used a speech bubble card to write out some of the things that happened.

I used one of the new digital cut files from Two Peas to create this Earth Day card. It's so cute -  I love it!! I've entered it into their National Scrapbooking Day Challenge #5.

Right Side: This is a page protector with 6 vertical slots from American Crafts. Check out that giant hosta plant vs the two smaller ones beside of it. The giant one gets considerably more shade during the day. They were all planted at the same time! And there were several trees with yarn around them when we went antiquing in downtown Kingsport. At first I thought it was a yarn bombing, but it ended up being part of an art installation. Pretty cool either way!

I made another card using pretty paper and a sticker.
