December Daily Beginnings

I decided to do a December Daily this year and I'm super psyched! I've never actually completed one, but it's happening this year :)  I got Pam Garrison's mini kit from Ali Edwards, and Elise and Brandi's mini kit from Feed Your Craft (sorry, it's sold out but you can see part of it in this blog post). I grabbed a few extra supplies from my stash to round out my kit and I'm keeping it simple! I would like to work on it every day, but probably won't blog it every day (but who knows!)

Here's my title page! I dug into my button hoard and made a little Christmas tree.

I found this amazing calendar (and three others!) on Marie's blog. She made these printables to share with everyone! <3 I'll be adding words and stickers to the calendar as the month progresses.

I love how this little "December Hopes" turned out!

I waited too long to find numbers, so I made my own!

Here's how you can make your own:

1. I used the Every Day Numbers cut file (Days 1-25) and set 2 to get to Day 31

2. Reduced the size to 1.25"

3. Added registration marks to make a Print n Cut file

4. printed them on a laser printer

5. Ran them through my Minc with rose gold foil

6. Cut them out on my Silhouette.

Silhouette Cameo Crafts

I haven't been a good blogger or picture taker, but I have been making some Silhouette Cameo crafts during my months of not blogging :)

A friend of a friend was looking for an anniversary gift. She found just what she wanted on Etsy, but couldn't order and receive it in time. I used scrapbook paper to cut out hearts, put pop dots in between  the layers, and mounted them on white cardstock in a 12x12 frame. She chose custom text to highlight the couple's names, family members, and special places. I love how it turned out !

Another friend of a friend was celebrating her baby's first birthday and wanted a "Wild One" theme. These little crowns were put on wooden dowels, placed in mason jars, and used as centerpieces I found a crown in my Silhouette library and stretched it to the shape I wanted, then offset it to make the larger crown. I typed out "WILD ONE" on a 3D banner from my library and printed and cut them. I also made a cake topper and cut letters out for a banner for her.

A friend turned 40 and I had fun making these pretty medallions with a glittery gold "40" on them. 

Another friend asked me to make a little street sign to go on a Freddy Krueger wreath she was making for her niece. All the signs she found were metal and were too heavy to be placed on the wreath. I drew a rectangle, put an oval on it, and combined them into one shape. Then I offset the new shape to get the larger shape. I cut 4 pieces of the outside silver piece to make it more 3D. I did 2 layers of the letters.

Summer Book Report

Since I'm a little behind on posting, I thought I'd combine the July and August books into one post. I tried Audible for the first time this summer and it got me back on track to reading my goal of 30 books this year!

First up was Water from My Heart by Charles Martin. It's the first time I've read anything by him, and I'm interested in reading more. This book is a love story, but isn't sappy. So good!

I heard about The Book of Strange New Things by Michael Faber on a podcast and it sounded cool. It's a science fiction/fantasty sort of book where a husband leaves Earth and travels to another planet. He's a preacher and thinks he is going to spread Christianity to a different species. I wasn't a huge fan of the main character, but couldn't quit the book. It was strange but good.

I listened to The Law of Divine Compensation: On Work, Money, and Miracles by Marianne Williamson on Audible. A friend recommended it and it was fantastic!! It talks about a scarcity mindset vs an abundance mindset.

I borrowed As Close to Us as Breathing by Elizabeth Poliner on Overdrive. I love free library books!! This story is about some Jewish sisters and their families. They vacation together but are all affected by a tragedy later. I learned a valuable lesson when reading this book... pay attention to when your library loan is over OR put your Kindle in airplane mode! My loan expired when I was 80% through the book and I had to reborn it (2 months later!!) to finish the last 20%.

I wanted to love Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling. I mean, it's Harry Potter and I love Harry Potter. However, I just couldn't get into this book.

I listened to Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson from Overdrive (free books for the win!). IT WAS AWESOME!! Each chapter is told from the point of view of this little girl and each chapter is just a scene or a short story. Amazing.

I think Yellow Crocus by Laila Ibrahim was a free Kindle book or something. It's about a slave and the white child to whom she is a wet nurse. It might have been better if I was actually reading it, but I listened to it on Audible while doing a massive craft room purge and reorganization. I realized that I don't particularly care for listening to fiction on Audible. The reader used different voices for each character and I found her voices annoying.

I went back to nonfiction and listened to Daring Greatly by Brene Brown on Audible. It's all about being vulnerable and more courageous.

Thanksgiving Banner

This year, I hosted Thanksgiving for the first time. My mom came over the day before and helped me get everything set up. Afterwards, we made a little Thanksgiving banner with my Silhouette Cameo. So cute and simple to make!

I used Lori Whitlock's "The Story of Fall" 6x6 paper pad to make the acorn caps and brown and orange cardstock for the acorns and leaves. We just found the shapes in the online store and downloaded them. She punched holes and strung some twine to make the banner.

Although we used different paper than I used for my "Hello Autumn" wreath, it coordinates just fine! Hope you had a happy thanksgiving!
